OPEN DOOR COMMUNITY SINGERS CANTERBURY
This flagship choir emerged in April 2013, in response to a number of requests from people seeking to branch out beyond gospel music. The Open Door Community Singers were born and the group is fast attracting others, from all ages and cultures, who want to sing popular, contemporary music and aspire to a high standard of performance.
Open Door Community Singers meet every Monday evening in Canterbury from 7.30pm – 9pm for 90 minutes full of fun and a great vocal workout. There is no need to audition or be able to read music – an enjoyment of singing, a love of music and a desire to have a good time is sufficient requirement for you to participate and join the choir. We sing popular music, contemporary favourites and some well known classics.
Open Door Community Singers currently number over 250 members and each week there are new attendees keen to experience the fun they’ve heard about. You will be guaranteed laughter, a warm welcome and an energetic night of harmony and melody that is sure to delight you.
Our highly talented, energetic and engaging Musical Director, Shaun Islip, brings a wealth of musical experience and skill to our group. His charismatic personality ensures a fun-filled evening, whilst encouraging us to be the best we can be.
There is an attendance fee of $10 each session (books of prepaid tickets available upon request) and a membership fee of $85 paid annually.
The choir meets on Mondays at 7.30pm – 9pm at the Habitat Uniting Church, on the corner of Mont Albert Road and Burke Road in Canterbury.
