OPEN DOOR GOSPEL SINGERS

The Open Door Gospel Singers welcomes more than 90 members from a diverse range of ages, backgrounds and cultures.  We meet weekly in Habitat Uniting Church, Canterbury for two hours of wonderfully inspiring and uplifting singing.  We enjoy an extensive repertoire of Gospel music, traditional African spirituals, and contemporary Christian music. We also, on occasions, draw on a growing repertoire of more traditional sacred choral works. We have performed in churches, outdoor festivals, weddings and other special events and are willing to consider any invitation to perform.

You don’t have to audition or be able to read music. It helps if you love singing, enjoy laughing and are open to meeting new friends.

The choir is a not for profit organisation and with a welcoming group of singers, its intention is to reach out to the community through gospel music, social inclusion, learning together and bringing the message of the Christian gospel to life. We aim to provide a supportive forum where people feel welcome, where they are encouraged to find new friends, and to participate in singing at a level of their choosing. There is no audition necessary and a warm welcome awaits everyone from any background or culture.

We meet each Thursday evening, with sessions commencing promptly at 7.30pm.  The venue is the Habitat (St. David’s) Church, on the corner of Burke and Mont Albert Roads, Canterbury.  We sing for an hour, have a short refreshment break, and resume singing for another hour.

Our highly talented, energetic and engaging Musical Director, Shaun Islip, brings a wealth of musical experience and skill to the group. His charismatic personality ensures a most enjoyable evening.

There is an attendance fee of $10 each session (books of prepaid tickets available upon request) and a membership fee of $85 paid annually.
